Ezio had some of the most emotional speeches in the entirety of the franchise. The speeches Ezio has made to this day make me feel inspired. If you truly understand what he means by "Nothing is true, Everything is permitted." It can be a helpful tool to finding your own peace. I know its just a game, but there's still wisdom in his words.

  • @ViceN53X

It's interesting how she calls it cynical as if it was a doctrine, followed by Ezio confirming that it would be if it IS a doctrine. Because back when I first heard that saying, I thought it was a doctrine by the Creed. But this explanation actually blew my mind but also it started to make sense considering how we apply that idea to how we see the world today.

To say that "Nothing is true" is to realize that the foundation of society is fragile and we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say that "Everything is Permitted" is to realize we are the architects our actions, and we must live with consequences, weather glorious or tragic.

The way Ezio explains the creed is how I interpret things like the Codex Astardes(warhammer), or the jedi code(star wars). None of those are doctrines. It’s how we live by these rules that is the true test of an assassin, or a space marine, or a jedi knight.

Nothing is true: Every country or ideology that has ever fourm in history, has fallen in some way; Italy, France, Great Britain, even what use to be the native tribes in North America. Countries change and/or fall, and ideology's evolve or die, and no country or idea is immune to criticism, even if it does have extremely spiritual ties. Everything is permitted: There is no real concrete ruleset in life, there is no 'existing being in the sky' that is going to punish you for enjoying a certain type of food or lifestyle, when you die; you die. and all the bad/good things that will either happen, has happened, or is about to happen; is merely the actions that not just come from you but from others as well.

Ikr. If I recall correctly, Edward believes that the creed is the foundation to build your own wisdom from. Which does make sense since Assassins encourage freedom and for people to think for themselves. Arno believes that it is a warning on extreme behavior. Your truth may not be THE truth, and in reality, anyone is capable of anything. All of them does follow Ezios explanation however, that the creed is an observation of society. Not a command.

The way I see the saying is almost if not THE same as Arno Dorian in Unity.”Nothing is true” is something we must accept, there is no real “truth”.If there is,it’s a useless one not worth the effort.”Everything is permitted” is what those who cannot accept that fact will end up thinking.in their search for the “Truth” they will change and bend their morals in hopes for a better chance to find it.The wiki states that’s how Arno views it,as a guide and a warning. We must accept that there is nothing,or we’ll lose ourselves.

The saying nothing is true of all is permitted is beyond society it is infact a spiritual guide to our observational lifestyle. The saying "nothing is true means that all is true, The saying "everything is permitted means nothing is permitted. This philosophy is beyond social construct and more for the human soul. Depending on your lvl of enlightenment the saying will resonate a certain way. Deshi basara 🙏🏽

My interpretation of this is that, basically nothing that has been told is true, more told to keep us in check, for example religion. It was created because we really had no order back then so someone smarter came up with an official story that had a reward for good behaviour (heaven)and a consequence for bad behaviour (hell) anyway I could go on about how religion is rubbish but there’s to much to say. Strange there’s so much philosophy in the early assassins creed games,I just love it! The way they did a spin on the people In charge of the world ‘theTemplar’s’ but very overblown obviously. The ‘nothing is true’ doesn’t really hold up today with science and everything, but back then everything was false. So it’s a way of saying don’t believe what you’re told, come up with your own conclusions. And the ‘everything is permitted’ is basically there is no laws and no meaning to life,we have come to be just by coincidence so you can do what you want. But remember, just because nothing is true to you doesn’t mean everyone else thinks the same so your actions have to obey the believed laws of the world otherwise you’ll suffer the consequences. Just love the old assassins creed games with it’s deep rooted philosophy on life, now it’s just sad to watch where it is. I guess that’s what happens when every buggy game they came out with everyone left hate. My guess is they thought “nobody knows what they want so I guess will just make a fortnite type experience with colours and cosmetics” not realising that everyone loved the previous games. It’s just, they had soo many bugs, literal game breaking ones. Shame if they just spent a little more than a FREAKING YEAR! I mean they literally made the games in a year,The employees must of been slaves for sure.

in the context of Altair's day, and still strongly but slightly less so in Ezio's, (organized) religion would probably have been the most prominent example, but I feel it applies to all ideology and moral codes. Nothing is absolute truth because there is only what people subjectively believe is correct. Blindly believing something without first considering whether you agree with it is foolish, but at the same time every decision of how you want to live your life is an active choice with inevitable consequences that you only have yourself to blame. Own your shit, or at the very least decide who should, but everything is permitted; never pretend you weren't the one who started walking this path if you don't like where it leads. Realistically, imo, it's not actually anti-religion at all, just against blind faith without reasoning. Against just letting something else fully dictating what you should do without giving it a second thought. If you personally decide that you agree with what a religion says then all the power to you. But it's all on you, always has been and always will be. Always *should* be, if free will is to have its way.
